Abstract

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of implementing a program based on some habits of mind in electronic classrooms to develop English oral communication skills of secondary stage students. The two-group pre-post-test quasi-experimental design was used. The participants of the study included fifty first year secondary school students in Port Said military Secondary School for boys. The instruments of the study included an oral communication skills questionnaire and a pre- post oral communication test and a scoring rubric was used for the test. The two groups were pre-tested, taught the program to the experimental group only then the two groups were post-tested. The effectiveness of the suggested program was investigated by comparing the pre-treatment and post treatment performance of the students on the pre- post oral communication test. The results of the study proved that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group in each of the pre and post-test administration. In addition, the results of the study proved that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group in post-test administration. The results indicated that the program that was based on some habits of mind in electronic classrooms to develop English oral communication skills of secondary school stage students was effective.
