Abstract

At this time, there appears to be a clear link between food components and immunological function. Since the 1960s, scientists have recognised that the immune system plays an important role in the link between starvation and illness. However, a major emphasis of contemporary study is the prospect of using nutrition to modulate the immune system of healthy people in order to improve health. Supplementing with specific nutrients, particularly those having antioxidant properties, has been proven by some scientists to increase immunological function.
Nutrient status is an essential role in immunological effectiveness, and there are complex relationships between diet, infection, and health. Significant study has focused on the significance of nutrition, particularly the contribution of micronutrients to the optimum functioning of the immune system, in the previous decade.
It is estimated that 6 million children die each year around the world as a result of diseases induced by hunger and a weakened immune system. We must make sure that we are consuming more food in order to maintain a healthy immune system.
Individual nutritional deficit can also affect immunological responses, even if the deficiency is minor. Selenium, zinc, copper, iron, and vitamins A, C, E, and B6, as well as folic acid and antioxidants like Quercetin (Q) and catechins (CT), all have a role in immunological responses.
The present work carried out to study the therapeutic effect of feeding Q, CT from different source against immunity inhibition causative to male rats for 9 weeks, immunity was suppressed by administering CD in drinkingwater (40 mg / L) for 40 days.
the effect of feeding Q, CT from different source studied on Initial Body weight, Final Body Weight, Weight gain, feed- intake, body weight gian and feed efficiency ratio, immunity function was tested by level of total LYM count and analyzed immunity protein (IgG), SOD, GPX, CAT, RBCs, HB, HCT, MCH, MCV, MCHC, PLTs, WBCs, CH, TG, HDL, LDL, VLDL, U.acid, creatinine, Urea, GOT, NEUT, GPT and TP also measured. Histopathological examination for liver, spleen and thymus gland also carried out.
A total of thirty six adult Sprague dawley male rates weighing (180-210) gm. were allocated 6 groups. first group was the (-ve) control and fed on basal diet, while main (30 rats) drinked polluted water with CD 40mg/k.g for 40 days (to induced immunity inhibition) and fed on basal diet only. Then rats were divided equally to five groups (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and fed on basal diet only (positive control) or with Q commercial at 45mg/ kg swallowed orally, dried red onions as a natural source Q by 70.3 g it equal 45mg/ kg Q, CAT commercial at 7500 μg/kg Swallowed orally and GT powder as a natural source CT by 25.6 g/ kg it equal 7500 μg/kg CT., treatments were for 21 days as mentioned.
At the end experiment period, all rats were sacrificed liver, spleen and thymus gland were removed and weighted. And blood samples were collected for separation the serum for biochemical analysis liver, spleen and thymus gland was examined histopathologically.
Results of this study revealed that, rats in group (+ve control), were induced immunity inhibition for them at the end of experiment, shows a significant decreased values in levels of significant decreased in SOD, GPX, CAT, RBCs, HB, HCT, MCH, MCHC, PLTs, LYM, LDL and HDL.but significant increased values in levels of significant increased in IgG, MCV, WBCs, NEUT, CH, TG, VLDL, Urea, U.acid, Creatinine, GOT, GPT and TP. as well as focal inflammatory cells infiltration In the hepatic parenchyma and thrombosis in the lumen of The central vein were deletcted in histopathological examinations of liver, lymphocytic necrosis with appearance of langible body macrophages and congesion of blood vessel were deletcted in histopathological examinations of spleen, showing necrobiosis in some lymphoid cells In cortex and medulla deletcted in histopathological examinations of thymus.
Histopathological examination of thymus of rats protected and treated with Q, CT from different source, shows significant decreasing in lymphocytic necrosis of liver with appearance or congestion of blood vessel compared to (+ ve control) rats, also histopathological examinations of spleen shows significant decreasing in lymphocytic necrosis with appearance of tangible body macrophages and congesion of blood vessel compared to (+ ve control), as well as histopathological examinations of thymus shows significant decreasing in lymphocytic cells In cortex and medulla. So consumption of Q, CT is very useful as its therapeutic effect from immunity disorders.
