The study indicated that the sustainable development is a national security issue because it is not related to the future of current generations only, but because it is linked to the continued economic, social, environmental, and institutional aspects of society as a whole. It is the development that meets the needs of the present without destroying the ability of future generations to achieve their needs. The United Nations has developed a development program and presented the Sustainable Development Goals in January 2016 to implement them in about 170 countries and territories. Moreover, the most important focus of them is on reducing poverty and addressing the effects of climate change and economic inequality.
The study also aimed to clarify how commercial banks have an impact on achieving sustainable development, especially in developing countries, for their important role in achieving sustainable development, playing a prominent role in financing economic growth processes and promoting the country’s plans for sustainable growth, for example, the financing of many projects such as the small projects, which are the backbone of the economy and the balance in the economies of many countries, not only because they are providing jobs opportunities , but because they afford large industries with their needs in addition to training the workforce to make them more skilled as a specific factor for growth.
Small and intermediate projects are therefore one of the trends adopted by the state in achieving some economic and social gains because they affect economic variables such as the level of savings , spending and poverty reduction by contributing to the elimination of unemployment and raising the level of employment.The problem of the study focuses on the banking sector and its importance in influencing the growth of the economies of the countries as it occupies a vital position in the economic and financial systems and is considered the pillar in building the financial and economic structure of the developing countries.The study aims to identify: The concept of sustainable development, dimensions and indicators.The role of the banking sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals• The role of the state in promoting the achievement of the sustainable development goals. The role of small projects in achieving sustainable development.
