Abstract

West Port Said is one of the coastal areas in Egypt where the urban and industrial projects that need a continuous water resource. The desalination of saline groundwater is a new water resource that can be added to our limited fresh water resources, especially in such coastal areas, where it is sometimes difficult to use sea water due to the pollution of petroleum activities in the sea, which is important to increase national income. To ensure the feasibility of using groundwater and evaluating the coastal aquifer in West Port Said, this study required the qualitative and quantitative methods such as different geophysical, hydrogeological and hydrochemical approaches to achieve the main objective. The results of the geophysical survey showed that the presence of saline groundwater in the subsurface sand layers at different depths in three zones: A, B, and C as the best source of water to be used as a continuous source of desalination in the study area instead of the polluted Mediterranean water, but with specific withdrawal scenarios to preserve this resource from quantitatively and qualitatively deteriorating.
