Abstract

The sun is the main source and the basic building block for all types of energy on the surface of the earth. Because it is a renewable, an abundant and a bright big star, the sun is the most important resource of energy on earth. So, knowledge of the global solar radiation is critical for the best design and forecast of solar energy conversion system performance in every solar system. In this study, the performance of a solar PV module (100 W) had been studied in outdoor conditions which was situated on the top of the Faculty of Science, Tanta University, in Tanta city of Latitude (30° 41`) throughout one year. Starting this study with measurement of global solar radiation which incident on horizontal planes by using the Epply-precision spectral pyranometer. Then preparing suitable computer programs to calculate the global solar radiation on inclined surfaces which suited on tilting angle equal to Tanta city latitude in the south direction of the sun. Depending on the measured values on horizontal planes and the calculated data of inclined surfaces for one year, the maximum value of global hourly solar radiation on a tilted surface in face south was 1174.15 Wm-2 in April. And, the minimum global hourly solar radiation on a tilted surface was in October in south direction of the sun with value equal to 816.11 Wm-2.
