Abstract

chronic hepatitis C virus is a major cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality and is known to impair activities of daily living. Direct-acting antivirals have demonstrated high efficacy to achieve sustained virological response in chronic hepatitis C patients. Aim: This study aimed to assess effect of direct acting antiviral” treatment” on daily living activities of patients with hepatitis C virus. Setting: This study conducted at El-Mataria Daqahlia Health insurance hospital in El-Mataria city, Daqahlia and EL-Tadamon Hospital in Port –Said city. A descriptive design of 100 male and female adult patients was included in the study. Tools of data collection three tools were used to collect study data. First tool is instructional interview questionnaire, the second tool is care dependency scale and third tool was Lawton-Broody instrumental activities of daily living scale. Results 30 % of sample were completely dependent on others in the items of recreational activities and learning ability, 21% were substantially dependent in the item of daily activities, while 97% were independent in the item of continence. Additionally, there was significant statistical relationship between daily living activities and only age, sex and social status respectively (P= 0.000).
