Abstract

E
pilepsy is a common neurological disorder that affects over 70 million people worldwide. Despite the recent introduction of new anti -seizure drugs (ASDs), about one-third of patients with epilepsy have seizures refractory to pharmacotherapy.
Pediatric epilepsy surgery is a treatment modality appropriate for selecting patients with debilitating medication-resistant seizures. The assessment of quality of life (QOL) is essential to improve and understand the reality of patients and their caregivers, because it reflects the functional impact of the illness and its consequent treatment on them, encompassing physical, psychological, and social factors.
The aim of this work was to study the effect of epilepsy surgery and health education on seizure control, sleep and quality of life in children with drug resistant epilepsy post-operative.
Statistical analysis revealed the following:
1- Most of patients (65.6%) were males. The mean of age of all patients was 7.7 with range from 4 to 18 years.
2- Statistically significant deference between before surgery and after surgery among Chalfont scale, QOL, IQ and sleep disorders but, there was no statistically significant deference between gender with EEG after surgery, Chalfont scale, quality of life and sleep disorders among studied patients.
3- Statistically significant decrease improved patients in EEG after surgery from (8.9 ± 4) to (5.1 ± 1.4) but there were no statically significant deference between improved patients and not improved patients among chalfont scale, quality of life and sleep disorders.
Finally, Epilepsy surgery effectively improves the QOL in children with medication-resistant seizures, through seizure reduction, which was associated with the greatest improvement in life quality.

Conclusion
E
pilepsy surgery can play an important role in improving the quality of life, sleep and IQ in children with drug resistant epilepsy, through seizure reduction.

Recommendations
It is recommended early refer children with drug resistant epilepsy to pre surgical evaluation.
Early surgical management will improve the quality of life of children with drug resistant epilepsy and their family.
