Abstract Obesity is a serious, multifactorial, chronic illness affecting patients of all ages. Morbid obesity is a public health problem and its prevalence is on the increase. Despite certain progress the efficacy of medical treatment remains limited. Bariatric surgery has consequently become an effective alternative for patients with morbid obesity.Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG)was found to be effective is achieving weight loss as well as resolution of comorbidities in severe and super obese patients. It is considered as an effective technique in achieving up to 60–70 % mean excess weight loss at 3 years. However, long term results of LSG and real complication rates are still pending. |
