Abstract
DISSERTATION TITLE : Phytobiological investigation of Saussurea costus roots. Reviewing the current literature, the active constituents and biological activities of the Saussurea costus roots are not enough to cover the expected medicinal value of the titled plant. So, in the present study we aimed to isolate and identify the bioactive compounds present in the root parts of S. costus. as well as to test their biological activities. Therefore, the present study includes : I : Phytochemical investigation of Saussurea costus root parts including : Chapter 1 : Phytochemical investigation of petroleum ether fraction. Including Isolation and identification of its chemical constituents. Chapter 2 : Phytochemical investigation of methylene chloride fraction. Including Isolation and identification of its chemical constituents. II : Biological studies on the extracts and the isolated compounds from Saussurea costus root parts. This biological study includes : 1 – Cytotoxic activity. 2 – Anti-viral activity. 3– Anti bacterial activity.
