Abstract

Audit can be defined as a systematic review of aspects of practice that results in a change in that practice to improve the quality of professional care through changes applied regularly. A single clinician cannot perform audit alone; teamwork with finance manager and other clinical staff, etc. is mandatory. All aspects of surgical audit must be compared with some form of standard and then reevaluated in the next loop of the cycle. In clinical research we compare the study group with the control group, while in audit we compare our practice with a standard guidelines.
Anorectal disorders are common health problems of great importance in Egypt and can significantly impair a person’s quality of life.
Poor dietary habits and constipation are major factors in causing most of these disorders.
Chronic anal fissure, hemorrhoids, perianal fistulae and pilonidal disease are the four major pillars while discussing common benign anal disorders.
The main goal of this surgical audit is comparing our way of surgical management to the standard, starting from diagnosis and admission of cases from clinic till discharge after receiving the utmost care; then follow up for those patients and ensure that a difference was made to their life by assessing the improvement to its quality.
In March 2020,the Covid-19 pandemic struck the whole world and our audit was about to be cancelled as admission and operating elective anal cases was not allowed. In June 2020, we resumed action once again and revived working on this study as life returned to normal gradually.
