Abstract The central neuroendocrine system in chrysomya albiceps (Calliphoridae) and Sarcophaga dux (Sarcophagidae) brains includes two centers: pars intercerebralis (PI) and pars lateralis (PL). These centers contain median neurosecretory cells, MNSCs and lateral neurosecretory cells, LNSCs. In the present study, the neurosecretory cells in the brain and suboesophageal ganglion of 7-day-old adult female C. albiceps and S. dux have been studied in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue using a light microscope. Six groups of the neurosecretory cells were found in each hemisphere of the brain of S. dux: a median of B-type that were dominant: lateral I, lateral II, posterior I, posterior II, and peripheral groups. |
