Abstract Summary : Most critically ill patients in ICUs require mechanical ventilation (Haghighat, & Yazdannik, 2015). ETI is necessary in order to mechanically ventilate CIPs’ airway (Jordan et al., 2015). The ETT is ued for delivering oxygen under controlled pressure to assure the upper airway patency and maintaining adequate air passage (Kumar et al, 2021). Unlikely, the CIPs admitted to the ICU for mechanical ventilation are widely exposed to adverse complications which will be risky for their safety (Fernando et al., 2018). The CCNs as a professional career caring for those patients are assigned to deliver safe nursing care practice which directed by specific standards. Hence, the quality of patients’ nursing care must depend on scientific knowledge and competent nursing practice as following the evidence-based guidelines and standard recommendations (Al-Shameri, 2017). Therefore, the existing study aimed to investigate the practice of ETT nursing care in CICUs. To fulfill the aim of this study, the following research question is formulated : - What is the level of critical care nurses’ practice of endotracheal tube care for mechanically ventilated patients? Research Design : A descriptive observational research design was used to carry out the existing study. Setting : The current study was carried out in two CICUs affiliated to the main Mansoura University Hospital. Subjects : A convenience sample of 40 critical care nurses who were involved in providing nursing care for adult mechanically ventilated patients and had at least one-year of work experience in the above-mentioned settings were enrolled in this study. Data collection instrument : Data were collected using one tool: The Practice of ETT Nursing Care Observational Sheet. This tool was developed by the PI based on reviewing the relevant literature. |
