Abstract

The current study is mainly intended to develop the EFL linguistic competence and metalinguistic awareness among the senior English majors at the Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University through the Critical Discourse Analysis. To accomplish this purpose, the present study followed the pre-post, quasi- experimental-control group design. The participants were eighty EFL senior English majors who were divided into two groups, the experimental group (n= 40 students) and the control group (n=40 students). The researcher designed an EFL linguistic competence test to measure the EFL linguistic competence before and after the treatment; a three-point likert scale was designed for measuring the students’ EFL metalinguistic awareness before and after the treatment. Generally the current study was conducted over a period of eight weeks, along 23 sessions over the second term of the academic year 2020-2021. Finally, the results of the study revealed that the Critical Discourse Analysis has a positive effect on developing the EFL Linguistic Competence and metalinguistic Awareness among the senior English majors at the Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University.
