Abstract

Feed additives, are substances intentionally added to animal feeds in small quantities that influencing the physical or chemical properties of the diet. They are added to commercial feeds to adjust the pH during production, stop lipid peroxidation, oxidative rancidity, and prevent microbial spoilage of feed.
Antioxidants are considered substances that expand the shelf-life of feeds through protection them from spoilage caused by oxidation, such as fat rancidity and color changes.
Fifty male Sprague–Dawley rats (240-300g), obtained from laboratory animal farm of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University, were used in the experiment. The animals were kept under hygienic conditions, housed in cages and randomly assigned to five groups (n=10). The first group (negative group). The second group (VH) was orally administered corn oil day after day for consecutive 45 and 90 days. Third group was orally administered EQ by gastric tube day after day for consecutive 45 and 90 days. The fourth group was orally administered BHT by gastric tube day after day for consecutive 45 and 90 days while fifth group was orally administered both EQ and BHT in combination day after day for consecutive 45 and 90 days.
