Abstract

Duck hepatitis virus is a highly contagious viral disease of ducklings under 3 weeks of age usually. The disease is characterized by nervous signs and high mortality in a short course; prominent liver hemorrhages are pathognomonic for the disease as well as kidney lesions.
The etiology of the disease is DHAVs which belongs to the family picornaviridae. There are three distinct genotypes are now existed, DHAV-1, 2, 3. Epidemiologically, DHAV-1 is the most distributed type worldwide. The commercial vaccines are mostly targeted against this type. Although the involvement of vaccine in most vaccination programs in Egypt farms, the disease waves causing severe drastic mortalities still threaten the industry, so that the study were conducted to investigate the infectious cause of mortality.
In this study A total of 170 ducklings representing 54 flocks were submitted for examination. The collected birds targeted, expected DVH outbreaks along a period of 2016-2018 among 5 different localities in Sharkia Governorate. liver tissue samples were collected from ducklings showed characteristic nervous signs and liver lesions suggested to be infected with to be duck hepatitis virus.
