Abstract Childhood trauma is a severe form of stress that renders individuals more vulnerable to developing schizophrenia; neurobiological effects of such trauma on the endocrine system and epigenetic mechanisms are studied. In addition, extensive research examining the etiology of bipolar disorder has focused on genetic influences, providing evidence for a strong genetic component. On the other hand, there is emerging evidence that bipolar disorder is also susceptible to certain environmental factors, especially early traumatic experiences. Therefore, Childhood traumatic events are considered risk factors for developing bipolar disorders, in addition to a more severe clinical presentation over time (primarily an earlier age at onset and an increased risk of suicide attempt and substance misuse). Therefore, the aim of the present study was to study the association of childhood trauma in An adult patients’s sample suffering from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, second Timeline the difference between the type and the degree of the subjective trauma in each disorder. The study was conducted on 100 patients with Schizophrenia (group A) and 100 patients with Bipolar disorder (group B) attending Alexandria university hospital (ELHadara) and El Maamora hospital for mental health. |
