Abstract The purpose of the study was to evaluate the risk arises from some physical and chemical hazards in oil and gas industry, and this was achieved by measuring the concentration of chemicals in air like benzene, hydrogen sulfide, sodium hydroxide, .etc., which exist constantly in the workplace environment. Physical hazards were determined by measuring noise, heat stress, ionizing radiation, and lighting in the workplace which may affect the worker’s health and safety adversely. The study covers AN RPC Company as a case study for oil and gas industry. 0 Data were collected within the period from July 2015 to July 2019, and the average value and standard deviation for each hazard was calculated individually to give an indication for severity of the detected hazard. The detected values were compared to local and international standards to identify the hazards that exceed the permissible levels and need control measures in order to reduce the level of the risk to acceptable value. The results showed deviation from the permissible levels for some physical and chemical hazards. Noise and light intensity as physical hazards have some locations higher than the acceptable values. Benzene concentration in air as a chemical hazard had values in some locations higher than the acceptable values. In addition, hydrogen sulfide had values slightly near the acceptable limits. The suggested control measures were discussed for the detected previous hazards to reduce the values to acceptable levels and consequently reduce the risk. |
