Abstract

7. Summary & Conclusion
The aim of our study was to assess the influence of using EMD as a scaffold in pulp revascularization as compared to the conventional MTA revascularization.
In the study, 30 patients were included and divided into two groups. group A was treated using EMD and MTA plug scaffold while group B was treated using conventional MTA plug and blood clot.
First visit was completed the same way for both groups. Access was done, canals were disinfected with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and filled with calcium hydroxide and sealed with temporary restoration for 2-4 weeks.
In group A second visit, periapical tissues were stimulated until bleeding was evident in cervical portion of the canal, then EMD was injected on the blood clot to act as a matrix for the cells. After that, white MTA was placed at the orifice, over the EMD and the blood clot to seal the canal orifice with a wet sterile cotton pellet and temporary restoration above, which is then changed into permanent restoration after 1-2 days.
In group B second visit, periapical tissues were stimulated until bleeding was evident in cervical portion of the canal, then white MTA was placed at the orifice, over the blood clot to seal the canal orifice with a wet sterile cotton pellet and temporary restoration above, which is then changed into permanent restoration after 1-2 days.
Clinical and radiographic evaluation for both groups were done at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months intervals in terms of tooth length, dentin thickness as well as apical diameter.
Regarding tooth length, group B showed non significantly higher values of percentage change than group A at the end of the whole follow up period.
Regarding dentin thickness, group A showed significantly higher values of percentage change than group B at the end of the whole follow up period.
Regarding apical diameter, group A showed non significantly higher values of percentage change than group B at the end of the whole follow up period.

Conclusion
from the results of our study, we concluded that:
 The use of enamel matrix derivative as a scaffold showed successful promising results in regenerative endodontics procedures.
 The use of EMD with MTA accelerate the root growth following regenerative procedure.
 The use of EMD with MTA in pulp regeneration has a significantly better effect in increasing the dentin thickness than the use of MTA alone.
 The application of EMD is a simple and quick adjunct to regenerative endodontic procedures.
