Abstract Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by an accumulation of incompletely developed follicles in the ovaries due to anovulation and associated with ovarian androgen production. In its complete form, it associates polycystic ovaries, amenorrhea, hirsutism and obesity. Physical findings & clinical presentation Oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, infertility, hirsutism, acne. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction, and polycystic ovaries. However, there is considerable interindividual variation in presentation. Although not required for diagnosis, the presence of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia is common and places those affected at increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Thus, PCOS adversely affects endocrine, metabolic, and cardiovascular health. Women presenting with hirsuties/polycystic ovary syndrome have increased production of androgens suggests that these women may have increased sexual desire. Female sexual dysfunction is defined as disorders of sexual desire, arousal, orgasm and/ or sexual pain, which results in significant personal distress and may have an impact on the quality of life and interpersonal relationship. Approximately 40% of females report sexual concerns. The current study aimed to determine possible role of polycystic ovarian syndrome on sexual dysfunction. This case control study was conducted on forty-nine married Egyptian female patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome and forty-nine normal married females as control group recruited from Gynecology & Obstetrics clinic in faculty of medicine Menoufia University. People included in this study were divided into two groups as follow: group I: was enroll a total number of 49 patients of female in child bearing period (21- 45) years, having PCOS, group II: was enroll a total number of 49 healthy females age - sex compatible subjects as a control group. All patients were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: Sexually active female in child bearing period (21-45) years, having Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOS) and normal female as control group. Exclusion criteria: Females with chronic disabling diseases, females who are sexually inactive, females with diagnosed psychological disorders, females aged above 45 years old to avoid post-menopausal effects on sexuality, unmarried females, females with history of neurological or mental disorders and female having hormonal disturbance other than polycystic ovarian disease.
