Abstract Work-family conflict is the overlapping of home and work roles that may lead to interface in the roles at home, or cause problems at work. These conflicts have a negative influence on Job Performance. Emotional intelligence weakened the effect of work-family conflict on job performance of nurses. Aim of the study: It aimed at assess work-family conflict and emotional intelligence in relation to job performance of staff nurses at Ismailia General Hospital.Subjects and methods: A correlational descriptive design was conducted on staff nurses at Ismailia General Hospital. The sample size was 300 nurses that include all staff nurses in the hospital. Three tools were used for data collection namely; Work-Family Conflict Scale, Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory-Short, and Six Dimensional Scale of Nursing Performance. Results: The highest percentage of staff nurses record high level toward total work interfering with family. Compared with, moderate level toward total work-family conflict. The highest percentage of staff nurses record high level towards emotional intelligence. While, they record good level toward job performance. There was a statistical significant positive correlation between work family conflict and emotional intelligence. There was statistical significant negative correlation between family interference with work and total job performance. Conclusion: the highest percentage of staff nurses record moderate level toward work-family conflict, high level towards emotional intelligence, and good level toward job performance. There was a positive statistical significant correlation between work family conflict and emotional intelligence, and negative statistical significant correlation between family interference with work and job performance. Recommendations: Decrease work family conflict that negatively affect nurse’s performance, Encourage nurses to participate in and Perform training programs through continuous education about problem solving skills, stress management, communication skills time management skills and using nursing process to improve performance.Key words: Work-Family Conflict, Emotional Intelligence, Job Performance. |
