Abstract

In this these, we investigate theoretically the electromagnetic waves propagation in deferent superconducting photonic crystal designs. Demonstrate the generation of Fano resonance (F) feature based on a defected one dimensional superconducting photonic crystal (PC) design. Our proposed design consists of alternated layers of high-temperature superconductor material with conventional ones. By using the transfer matrix method, we investigate the optical properties for the proposed designs. The obtained optical properties show two sharp peaks with zero side band of reflectivity are resulted NIR region.
Then, by adding a defect layer to the periodic structure, we find that two peaks are appeared in the obtained spectrum which they are indicated for electromagnetic induced reflection (EIR) and Fano resonance concept.
Finally, by adjusting the design parameters of our proposed structure such as the number of periods, the thickness of the constituent’s layers, and the refractive index of defect layer, we investigated the corresponding optical properties response. Our proposed designs can be used in some potential applications such as in the optical devices as switching, slow-light and sensor.
Also, we investigate the optical transmittance of 1D PC in the presence of the external magnetic field based on characteristic matrix method (TMM). The external field has a significant effect on the permittivity of cold plasma layer. The permittivity functions of plasma layer have two expressions; right hand polarization (RHP) and left hand polarization (LHP) so the channel frequency is shift to high frequency in RHP and low frequency shift in LHP. The filter can be tuned by the varying of period number, external magnetic field and incident angle.
The thesis is organized as follows;
In chapter (1), we present an introduction about the superconductors (basics and types), photonic crystal (PCs) and its applications. Also, we demonstrate the photonic band gap (PBG) materials, using the superconductors in the PC designs, and Magneto-optical properties of material.
In chapter (2), we investigate the theoretical analysis and the simulation tools applicable to describe the electromagnetic waves interaction with different designs of regular and defective PCs.
In chapter (3) we have introduced the result and discussion in two parts:
1- A defective one –dimensional superconducting photonic crystal design for the generation of the Fano resonance feature.
2- Multichannel filter in one –dimensional plasma photonic crystal.
Finally, the summary and conclusion will be presented in chapter (4).
