Abstract

Although most childhood arrhythmias are benign and self- limiting, correct diagnosis with no delay of a serious rhythm disturbance in a child or infant or neonate or even sometimes in the fetal life can be lifesaving. Rhythm disturbances have wide variety of presentation that can be misdiagnosed and also may be totally silent asymptomatic. Also in the face of the young age of those patients and difficulty of expressing symptoms or complaints, many cases present with complications due to underdiagnosis. Mothers and general pediatricians in routine follow up have a great role in observing for such arrhythmias. Congenital heart diseases play a major role in pathogenesis of these arrhythmia. Post cardiac corrective surgeries for congenital anomalies also have related common post-operative arrhythmias. Management of pediatric arrhythmias could be a real challenge due to their vulnerability of cardiac structures and conduction systems and deleterious effect of long-term use of antiarrhythmic drugs. Also cardiac devices implantation in pediatrics is challenging due to rapid growing little hearts and vessels. This study was conducted to assess the clinical profile of cases presented with different pediatric arrhythmias.
This is a cross sectional study that was conducted on 253 patients of pediatric age group presented with different types of tachyarrhythmia or bradyarrhythmia to cardiology department Tanta university hospitals from October 2018 to October 2020.Patient age below 18 years old. • Presented to our hospitals with tachyarrhythmia or bradyarrhythmia.
