Abstract This work involves the preparation and characterization of complexes of 2-hydroxy pyrdine-N-oxide (HOPO) and 2-Hydroxy-3-methyl-2-cyclo penten-1-one (HOmcp) with some transition metals. It includes six chapters. Chapter 1 (Introduction), deals with the general methods of preparation and characterization, biological and theoretical studies on derivatives of Pyridine-N-oxide and cyclopentendione metal complexes. Chapter 2 (Experimental) , includes preparations of 2-hydroxy pyridine-N-oxide and 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Fe(III) and Mg(II) chlorides . Also with some transition metal sulphate like Zn(II), Cr(III) and with AgNO3. In addition to characterization of the prepared complexes by elemental analysis, infrared, ultraviolet-visible spectra, magnetic, electrical conductance, electron spin resonance, thermal analysis measurements and biological studies were described. X-ray crystal structure for Ni(II) complexes of (HOPO) was also studied. Chapter 3 (Methods of calculations), includes simple definition of ORCA program and method of calculations for Ni (II) complexes of 2-hydroxy pyridine-N-oxide.
