Abstract The present work is concerned with one of the three Nile delta coastal estuarine lagoons, in north of Egypt that communicate with Mediterranean Sea, called Edku Lagoon. It is situated west of Rosetta Nile Branch at about 30 km east of Alexandria. It is a shallow-brackish 528 242 km(average depth 1 m) estuarine lagoon, its area is about (maximum length 15 km and maximum width 7.4 km). The shoreline length of the lagoon is of 40 km. About half of the total surface area of the lagoon is open-water free for fishing, whereas the rest of the area is inhabited by aquatic vegetation, fish farms or occupied by a series of islets. |
