Abstract

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is defined as a loss of renal function that occurs during 48 hours and is caused by a rise in serum creatinine and a reduction in urine production. Gentamicin (GM), AKI-associated medications, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that treats life-threatening infections. The current study set out to investigate whether mononuclear stem cells from human umbilical cord blood could be a beneficial therapeutic agent for AKI model and genotoxicity in rats, especially GM-induced bone marrow genotoxicity, the results showed marked improvement in kidney functions, regeneration of damaged kidney tissues and decreased level of gene expression associated with AKI.
