Abstract 1.1 General Outlines Groundwater plays a significant role in Egypt’s economy. It is a significant water source for domestic, agricultural, and industrial purposes. The field of research in this work encompasses the area between Rosetta branch and El Nubaryia canal and stretches north to the Mediterranean Sea. This region is characterized by a rapid growth in the agricultural, industrial, and recreational investments depending on surface-and groundwater. Many warnings and alarms have been launched regarding either the deterioration, or the depletion of groundwater resources, or even both in the area (Rani et al. 2010). The key elements of the worries that both natural phenomena and anthropogenic practices, such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, encroachment, reclamation and over-extraction, are extremely vulnerable in the area under interest. The over-extraction of the aquifer within the area under interest contributes to the lowering of the groundwater level, which in turn, induces the seawater intrusion into the freshwater aquifer. |
