Abstract

SUMMARY The aim of this study is to compare the outcome of olecranon - osteotomy and triceps-reflection approach in supracondylar intercondylar distal humerus fractures managed by double plating technique in adults. A prospective study was conducted from January 2020 to August 2020. 21 cases were treated using double plating technique. The study was conducted on 21 cases aged from above 18 years. 13 (61.9%) were males and 8 (38.1%) were females, we used two approaches olecranon- osteotomy approach in 10 and triceps- reflection approach in 11. 16 (76.1%) were adopting sedentary work, 5 (23.8%) were manual workers. Causes of the fracture either fall dawn stairs, road traffic accident in 28.6%, motor bike accident in 23.8% and motor car accident in 19%.The right side was affected in 57.1% and 42.9% were in left side. 85.7% of cases with no associated fractures, 9.5% with fracture ipsilateral proximal ulna, 4.8% with metacarpal fractures. Fixation of the fractures was done after stabilization of the patient’s general condition with a mean time lapse between injury and fixation 1-2 days.
