Currently, organizations face lots of challenges represented in: increasing global competition, globalization of the economy, international trade agreements and the emergence of the Internet of Things, big data, industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence. This is a result of the enormous development of information technology. This obliged the modern industrial organizations to think of how to keep up with developments within a competitive, changeable environment through searching for a suitable scientific way that contributes in improving their production operations and through adopting modern industrial systems that can adapt with the enormous technological changes in the field of production and how to make use of this enormous development in information technology and communications to improvement of performance of industrial organizations.
The current researcher attempts to analyze the effect of the effective application of the ERP system on the application of lean manufacturing system and their reflection on the operational performance of cement factories.
2. Problem of the research
The problem of research was determined by the following questions:
2/1: Is there an effect of applying ERP system on lean manufacturing system in cement factories?
2/2: Is there an effect of applying lean manufacturing system on the operational performance in cement factories?
2/3: Is there an effect of applying ERP system on the operational performance in cement factories?
2/4: Is there an effect of lean manufacturing system as a mediating variable in the relationship between applying ERP system and operational performance of cement factories?
3. Objective of the research
3/1: Analyze and measure the effect of applying ERP system on lean manufacturing system in cement factories.
3/2: Analyze and measure the effect of applying lean manufacturing system on the operational performance in cement factories.
3/3: Analyze and measure the effect of applying ERP system on the operational performance in cement factories.
3/4: Analyze and measure the effect of lean manufacturing system as a mediating variable in the relationship between applying ERP system and operational performance of cement factories.
3/5: Providing recommendations for cement factories to improve their operational performance by taking advantage of the effective implementation of ERP and lean manufacturing system, and provide action plan for their implementation.
4. Hypotheses of the research
4/1: There is a significant positive impact relationship between applying ERP system and lean manufacturing system in cement factories.
4/2: There is a significant positive impact relationship between applying lean manufacturing system and the operational performance in cement factories.
4/3: There is a significant positive impact relationship between applying ERP system and the operational performance in cement factories.
4/4: Lean manufacturing system as mediating variable affects on the relationship between applying ERP system and the operational performance in cement factories.
5. Results
5/1: The results of the research support the positive effect of applying ERP system on lean manufacturing system in cement factories.
5/2: The results of the research support the positive effect of applying lean manufacturing system on the operational performance in cement factories.
5/3: The results of the research support the positive effect of applying ERP system on the operational performance in cement factories.
5/4: The results of the research support that there is an indirect relationship between applying ERP system and the operational performance through lean manufacturing system as mediating variable.
6. Recommendations of the research
Based on the previous results of research, the researcher suggests a set of recommendations, as follows:
6/1: The cement factories mentioned, must achieve an effective implementation for the ERP system. It’s important to hint that having a certain system does not necessarily mean achieving the maximum possible benefit.ERP system must achieve the strategic goals of organizations.
6/2: The administration of cement factories must care for adopting the philosophy of lean manufacturing as a strategy and a new technique in production.
6/3: Cement factories must set an action plan through which the different concepts of the lean manufacturing system can be clarified, focusing on spreading the culture of getting rid of all the waste as one of the most important goals for lean manufacturing system.
6/4: Cement factories must achieve the integration between ERP system and lean manufacturing system through merging lean manufacturing system practices in the system of ERP. Thus, cement factories have to develop the system of ERP software to support the practices of lean manufacturing system.
6/5: Cement factories must tend to merge in or own already-constructed factories instead of trying to get a license to establish new factories to stop some production lines to decrease the total fixed cost and to downsize productivity capacity to be able to face the challenges that confront cement industry.
6/6: Cement factories must open new markets to export cement abroad to take in the surplus quantities through selling them with competitive prices in international markets.
6/7: Applying the model suggested by the researcher to increase understanding of the nature of the relation between ERP system and lean manufacturing system and their reflection on improving the operational performance of cement factories.
