Abstract

Novel three-dimensional biodegradable porous hybrid polymer-
hydroxyapatite nanocomposite bone scaffolds have been developed
using acacia gum and gelatin as base polymer matrix and magnesium
doped nano hydroxyapatite as cementing materials using gamma
irradiation facility for cro ss linking and sterilization process.
Hydroxyapatite and Magnesium doped Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles
were synthesized using wet chemical method. X -ray diffraction studies
confirmed the HAp nano scale size. The energy dispersive X-ray
analysis revealed the presence of ea, P and 0 in the prepared n-HAp in
addition to Mg in tbe doped HAp samples. The developed scaffolds
show adequate mechanical properties and porosity degree as well as a
promising antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and
Escherichia coli. In vitro cytotoxicity and blood compatibility
evaluation confirm their biocompatibility. Ketoprofen loaded scaffolds
were able to deliver the loaded drug in a sustainable manner.
Development of controlled drug release earners with
gastroretentive ability is one of the most feasible approaches to
improve the bioavailability and efficiency of medical treatment of
Helicobacter pylori induced peptic ulcer. Modification of alginate
with N, N-Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate was occurred via graft
copolymerization technique using y-irradiation.
