Abstract

In view of the results of the present study the following may be recommended to safeguard dentists, their staff and patients from the risk of cross infection.
1. Periodic training courses should be directed to dentists and their assistants to up-date their knowledge concerning transmission of infection in dental environment and methods of infection control according to universal precautions and other scientific infection control practices.
2. More resources should be made available to ensure adequate supply of protective devices, autoclavable handpieces, numerous sets of dental instruments as well as the various equipments and materials necessary for cross infection control.
3. Vaccination against hepatitis B virus should be mandatory and available for all dental health care workers to protect them and their patients from the risk of getting infected.
4. Protective equipments (gloves, masks, eye wears and protective clothes) should be used regularly by all dentists to provide more protection for both dentists and patients they manage.
5. Hand washing facilities should be redesigned to avoid cross contamination, as making electronic knee, elbow or foot action faucet controls and using soap dispensers instead of bar soaps.
6. Needles and sharp objects must be discarded only in puncture resistant leak proof labeled or color coded container to avoid needle stick injuries and subsequent transmission of blood borne pathogens.
7. Clinics’ waste should be collected in sturdy impervious red colored or flu recent labeled plastic bags. Collection of this waste must be under the
