Abstract

Summery
In order to relieve the symptoms of nasal obstruction in patients with inferior turbinate hypertrophy, various surgical methods have been used.
Aim of our study in using microdebrider in children is to decrease the turbinate volume with preservation of its mucosal surface to keep its function on.
A Prospective study was performed on 40 patients in childhood period (9-15) years old, with nasal obstruction of hypertrophied inferior turbinate mucosa refractory to medical treatment, from september 2018 to January2020.
Overall patients were treated with microdebrider in Beni-Suef university hospital.
Postoperative changes in the degree of nasal obstruction, discharge, sneezing and headache were evaluated prospectively on 1th week , 1th month and 6th month after the procedure.
Rhinomanometric evaluation was also performed for cases postoperative, nasal obstruction scale improved significantly on 1th week and within the period of 1th and 6th month after surgery.
The postoperative complications as adhesions, pain, crustation and epistaxis are very minimal and completely relived with the end of first week.
In conclusion, this study suggests that microdebrider assissted partial turbinoplasty in children is very effective and satisfactory in reliving nasal obstruction better than other procedures.
