Abstract Effective clinical leadership has consistently been identified as an essential component part of ensuring quality care and healthy workplaces. Involvements in clinical nursing practice need to be carefully assessed, strategically planned and coordinated. Improving and maintaining the qualities and competencies of charge nurses requires keeping pace with shifting healthcare expectations, evolving practice requirements, new information, technologies, and rapidly expanding evidence-based health services. Clinical leadership competencies of charge nurses are essentially for managing changes process effectively and delivering high quality care inside healthcare organizations. The aim of the present study was to design, implement, and evaluate a program about clinical leadership competencies on charge nurses based on self-need assessment The study was conducted at Tanta Main University Hospital intensive care units. The study subjects consisted of all (N=78) charge nurses working in the intensive care units ICUs. charge nurses at neonatal (n=26), medical (n=23), coronary (n=16), neurology (n=10) and chest (n=3). To achieve the aim of the study, three tools were used Tool Ι: Self-assessment of charge nurse development need for clinical leadership skills and capabilities consisted of 3 parts as follows: Part (a) characteristics of subjects. Part (b) Self-assessment of charge nurse development need for clinical leadership skills and capabilities, which charge nurses demonstrate to develop their clinical practice. |
