Abstract

The current investigation has been conducted to investigate the effect of tofu as combined with plums, guava , mango and mix fruits on diabetic rats and hypercholesterolemic rats.
Fifty five adult male albino rats , each weighting (150 ±10g) were used in this study. The first group fed on basal diet and injected with alloxan 150mg/kg body weight to induce diabetic rats and the other group fed on the hyperlipidimic diet is the basal diet with addition of 2.5% cholestrole and 10% cheeptail for feeding rats 3week to induce hypercholesterolemic rats . All rats were fed on control diet for seven days before the beginning of experiments for adaptation and as follows :
Diabetes in Albino Rats:
group (1): Negative control group fed on basal diet .
group (2): Positive control group diabetic rats fed on basal diet.
group (3): Diabetic group treated with 5% plums juice with tofu.
group (4): Diabetic group treated with 5% guava juice with tofu.
group (5): Diabetic group treated with 5% mango juice with tofu.
group (6): Diabetic group treated with 5% mixture of plum, guava and mango juices with tofu.
Hypercholesterolic in Albino Rats:
group (7): Positive control group Hypercholesterolemic rats fed on basal diet.
group (8): Hypercholesterolemic group treated with 5% plums juice with tofu.
group (9): Hypercholesterolemic group treated with 5% guava juice with tofu.
group (10): Hypercholesterolemic group treated with 5% mango juice with tofu.
group (11): Hypercholesterolemic group treated with 5% mixture of plum, guava and mango juices with tofu.
Blood serum samples were used for estimation of : *
1-Fasting serum glucose.
2-Serum GOT, GPT and ALP.
3-Serum lipid profile.
a-Total cholesterol.
b-Ttiglycerides.
c-HDL cholesterol.
d- LDL cholesterol.
e- VLDL cholesterol.
4-Serum kidney function.
The obtained results can be summarized as following:
Biological resalts of diabetic rats :
1-Body weight gain % ,Feed Intake &FER:
a-Hyperglycemic resulted in the increase of BWG, FI and FER.
b- Feeding on Tofu with plums 5%, guava 5% , mango 5% and mix fruit juices 5% raised BWG, FI and FER . c- Hyperglycemic (control”+”) raised the liver , heart , lungs , kidneys and spleen relatively weight .
2- Serum glucose :
a-The best result was observed for group 6(rats fed on Tofu by 5% with mix fruit juice 5%) .
3- Lipid profile :
a- Total cholesterol :The lowest mean value were observed for lowering total cholesterol of diabetic rats to group 6 (rats fed on tofu by 5% with mix fruits5%) .
b- Triglycerides :Hyperglycemic rats fed on tofu by 5% with Mix fruits5% showed the lowest mean value of TG .
c- VLDL :The best mean value of VLDL was noticed for group 6 ( Hyperglycemic rats fed on tofu by 5% with mix fruit juices 5%) .
d- HDL :Diabetes rats fed on Tofu by 5% with guava 5%and Tofu by 5% with Mix fruits5% (group 4, 6) showed the best treatment .
e- LDL: The lowest mean value of serum LDL-c was recorded for group 5( rats fed on tofu by 5% with mango juice 5%) .
