Progression of CKD is associated with number of serious health complications including increased incidence of cardiovascular disease and developing ESRD. chronic kidney disease reduces quality of life and causes death because of impaired treatment and late diagnosis in many cases. Uromodulin known as Tamm-Horsfall protein specifically synthesized and secreated by kidney tubular epithelial cells. The present study was conducted to evaluate the role of serum uromodulin as a biomarker of kidney function in patients with different stages of CKD. The present study was carried out at clinical pathology department, Tanta university hospital and included 70 patients divided into 2 groups: group (A): 60 chronic kidney disease patients. They were further subclassified into the following five grades according to estimated GFR: - Stage 1: normal eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min per 1.73 m2 and persistent albuminuria, including 10 patients. Stage 2: eGFR between 60 to 89 mL/min per 1.73 m2, including 10 patients. |
