Abstract The present study carried out to evaluate seasonal variations of body parameters, reproductive hormones, Erythrogram, leucogram, thrombocytes, HIS%, and GSI% in some fresh water fish species like Nile tilapia and African catfish. Therefore, 360 sexually mature fish were selected from fish market and by natural catch. The obtained results indicated significant differences (P < 0.05) between breeding and non-breeding seasons in body weight, abdominal thickness, abdominal circumference, reproductive hormones, Erythrogram, leucogram, thrombocytes count, HIS%, and GSI% specially in females of mixed sex Nile tilapia and African catfish and body weight, reproductive hormones, Erythrogram, leucogram, thrombocytes count, HIS%, and GSI% in males of Monosex Nile tilapia, mixed sex Nile tilapia, African catfish. On the other hand, the obtained findings showed non-significant difference (P < 0.05) between breeding and non-breeding seasons in total and standard body length, blood indices in males and females of Monosex Nile tilapia, mixed sex Nile tilapia, African catfish. It can be concluded that the breeding season is the best one for the fresh-water fishes and this can be attributed to good body conditions, high levels of reproductive hormones, and favorable hematological parameters which are suitable for induction of fish spawning. Keywords: Nile tilapia, African catfish, reproductive hormones, breeding, non-breeding, Erythrogram, leucogram, thrombocytes. |
