Abstract This study presents the level of some residues of pesticides and the levels of aflatoxin M1 in infant formula containing milk and infant biscuit. samples collected from domestic and imported infant dairy foods from hypermarkets and pharmacies located in state of Kuwait. Pesticides residues examined included dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), chlorpropham, glyphosate, methoxychlor, hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and endosulfan sulfate. Pesticides residues were extracted from the samples and analyzed using Liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) The results showed that dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), chlorpropham, glyphosate, methoxychlor, hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and endosulfan sulfate were found in 4%, 8%, 18%, 6%, 10% and 20% of analyzed infant formula containing milk samples respectively. Also, Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), Chlorpropham, Glyphosate, Methoxychlor, Hexachlorobenzene (HCB), Endosulfan sulfate were 26, 10, 16, 2, 2 and 6 of the analyzed infant biscuit samples respectively. on the other hand, AFM1 was found in 10 and 16 of the analyzed infant formula containing milk and infant biscuit samples respectively. The estimated daily intake (EDI) and the hazard index were calculated for both boys and girls at 6 and 12 months of age. It is necessary to apply an ideal recommended limit to minimize the health hazard from Pesticides residues contamination in milk-based infant formula. Application of good Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system to control of and in milk and dairy products used for infant formula processing is effective. |
