Abstract

Summary
Using of unfit feeding dates in Sugar and
biofuel production
Flesh Dates had a high content of sugar (71.9 –81.5%), low concentrations of protein (3.37–3.86%), very low content of lipids (0.19- 0.26%), ash content (2 – 2.31%), moisture content (9 -11 %) and the predominant mineral (potassium). These results suggested that dates are suitable feed stock for alcoholic fermentation. Pretreatment of date fibers at 140ºC for 10 minutes at 3.65 atm, showed distinguished positive results, as following: 1- Increasing the extracted sugars by 7-10%, 2-Improving the settling and filtration velocity. The 20% initial sugar concentration was suitable and could be economically fermented to bioethanol with yield v/w (36.9, 38.6 and 42 ml/100g of flesh date) from Malakabi, unknown and Saidi date types respectively, corresponding to 80% of theoretical yield, increased to 84-85% of theoretical yield , with the condition (9 v/v inoculum size, pH 6 and temperature 30ºC). Rate of bioethanol production in unknown date type was Extremely closed throw the three fermentation days with different initial sugar concentration, while, 34 and 39 v/w bioethanol yield production through just two fermentation days in Malakabi and Saidi date types, reached to 36.9 and 42 v/w in third day. also, rate of bioethanol production at 15% initial sugar concentration was highest from 10 and 20% (ISC), so that Malakabi and Saidi date types may be more favorites to be fermented for two days at 15% (ISC).
