Abstract

It is common for passenger lounges at airports to be just places where passengers stay until the boarding time of their flights, however, passenger lounges at airports are nowadays small types or models of airport services grouped in and presented in specific locations to host and serve VIP passengers, and not merely being places to wait. They are also considered as one of the most important tools to maximize the economic revenue for its operators.
Examples of services offered in lounges to passengers at airports: free and basic services related to information systems of aviation technology such as inquiring about the trip or making any change or modification in tickets, following up flights’ schedules through the FIDs (flight information database), There are also private businessmen services ”Business centers”, including computers, faxes, scanners, printers and free internet connection and so on. Moreover, there are food and beverage services, toilets and separated TV rooms, as well as the services and assistance provided by lounges staff for passengers including solving problems that passenger might encounter due to the complications of handling his/her arrangement by different authorities. Moreover there are much more services and latest technological applications that are currently provided at lounges in a quite large number of international airports all over the world.
As regards to profit services such as amenities services; there are special sections to sleep and relax in specially designated areas for sleeping, which later evolved into cabins and then to ”Nap Capsules”. Also, one of the latest paid luxurious services came recently into existence in some international lounges where the passenger can find health care services, including spa, massage and beauty salons sections in addition to gym and fitness services, national and international phones and others.
The significance of lounges has vastly increased when their operators invest them not only to serve business class and first class passengers, but to extend their function to include contracts and agreements with other parties to welcome passengers for extra charge, examples of these contracts with some banks to host customers who hold specific bank cards.
