Abstract

Mild steel is considered to be the main constructing martials in industry. There is a great need to protect mild steel material from corrosion by using corrosion inhibitors. However the use of chemical inhibitors has been limited because of the environment threat, A recent trend is devoted to employ environmentally friendly compounds green compounds as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel, in this study different extract of green coffee and polyacrylamide sodium alignate were investigated as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel during acid cleaning process and that used in reinforcing concrete, the environmentally friendly investigated compounds in this study were green coffee and poly amide sodium alginate, the inhibition effect of green coffee and polyamide sodium alginate extract in water on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HC1 solutions were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods, The inhibition efficiency increase with both green coffee and poly amide sodium alginate to attain 90% and83% at concentration 450, the temperature effect on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 1 M HC1 without and with green coffee and poly amide sodium alginate were studied in the temperature range from 30 to 60 °c, in parallel the associated activation energy and enthalpy have been determined, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy plots show the diameter of capacitive semicircle loop increases with concentration of inhibitor which is an indication of charge transfer corrosion process and inhibitive performance depends on adsorption of inhibitor over steel surface, the morphology of mild steel surface was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive analysis of x _ rays (EDAX), the results show the green coffee and poly amide sodium alginate are good inhibitors, the adsorption behavior of green coffee and poly acrylamide sodium alginate on mild steel obey langmiur adsorption isotherm, the main constituent responsible for corrosion inhibition properties of green coffee and poly amide sodium alginate extracts were found using gas chromatography -mass spectroscopy (GC_MS) and the main active groups in green inhibitors using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the results shows the addition of inhibitors don’t alter the values of (Ecorr) significantly, illustrating the mixed type nature of extract on corrosion inhibition on mild steel metal, showing that the presence of inhibitor doesn’t alter the mechanism of dissolution of the metal.
