Abstract Fever is one of the most frequent disease symptoms and a common cause of emergency admissions in infants and children. Fever is a self-limited but causes discomfort among parents and is the reason of distress and anxiety to them. Therefore, assessing parents’ knowledge and beliefs in managing fever and febrile illness is necessary so that safe and effective ways of managing fever can be communicated. Fever phobia among others has also been documented in parents, causing most frequent hospital visits. Mothers may occasionally use antifebrile drugs even at normal body temperatures, apply cold water or water with alcohol or vinegar to decrease the temperature, all of these treatments are unnecessary and possibly even harmful for the child, and therefore negatively affect the child’s health status. Proper management of feverish child at home is of utmost importance in alleviating child condition and minimizing the burden on limited health services. This is the motive behind initiation of the study. We aimed at assessing knowledge, attitude and practices of mothers towards fever and its management at home among under five children and to find-out some factors influencing maternal knowledge, attitude and practices. This study was a cross sectional study carried out in Maternity and Child Health Care Center (MCHC) in Kom Hamada city, Behira Governorate. |
