Abstract

This study was conducted to study the Effects of 5 % of moringa leaves and pomegranate peels as powder on biological and biochemical changes of toxicated rats by tartazine. Animals will be kept in clean wire cages under hygienic conditions in a room maintained at a relative humidity 40-60%, 20–25C and 12/12 h day light/darkness cycle. Feed will be introduced (ad libitum) to the rats in special food containers to avoid scattering. Similarly, fresh water will be provided ad-libitum and checked daily. Adaptation will be continued for one week. After that, rats will be randomly assigned to 6 equal groups as follows:
The first group: will be fed only on basal diet as a negative control group.
The second group will be fed on basal diet and intoxicated with tartrazine
The third group: : will be fed on basal diet containing 5% dried Moringa leaves.
The fourth group: will be fed on basal diet containing 5% dried pomegranate peels.
The fifth group: will be intoxicated with tartrazine and fed on basal diet containing 5% dried Moringa leaves.
The sixth group: will be intoxicated with tartrazine and fed on basal diet containing 5% dried pomegranate peels. To be tartrazine-intoxicated, the three later groups (groups 4, 5 and 6) will be treated with 300 mg of tartrazine/kg of body weight/day diluted in distilled water, less than 15% of the rat lethal dose 50, by oral route The experiment will continue for 6 weeks. Meanwhile the experiment, body weight and feed intake will be checked once a week. At the end, animals will be weighed, fasted overnight, and then sacrificed under very light ether anaesthesia. Blood samples will be collected from hepatic portal vein of each rat into dry clean centrifuge tubes. Serum will be carefully separated by centrifugation of blood samples at 3000 rpm (round per minute) for 10 minutes at room temperature, transferred into dry clean ebendorf tubes, then kept frozen at - 20˚C for latter determinations. Liver, kidneys, spleen, testis and heart will be removed from each rat by careful dissection, washed in saline solution (0.9%), dried using filter paper and independently weighed.
