Abstract Summary The present study is concerned with (1) synthesis of some new coordination polymers of some metals as silver and cadmium with organic ligand containing nitrogen, cynade and thiocynade through self-assembly and ultrasonic methods [AgSCN] (SCP1),[Cd(SCN)2(EIN)2] (SCP2) and (2) characterization of SCP1 and SCP2 through known physical techniques [single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, powder X-ray diffraction analysis, NMR spectra, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric and elemental analyses]. The present study also concerned with the applications of the synthesized SCPs as heterogenous catalysts to photo-catalytic degrade of Acid Blue 92 (AB) and Eosin-Y (EO) dyes from its aqueous solutions, as luminescent sensors toward Nitro benzene (NB) and Fe+3 ions, and in fuel sector as nano-additives to fuel to improve its flow properties and decrease its harmful emissions. This thesis comprises of three chapters: - Chapter (I): Chapter (I) includes a general introduction and literature survey on the supramolecular chemistry and its concepts, supramolecular coordination polymers (SCPs) and their probable dimensions, factors affecting the structure of SCPs as well as the types of probable interactions, synthesis methods and their applications in catalysis, sensing, gas storage, drug delivery and so on, as well as fuel and its combustion, Disel/Biodisel fuel, combustion of fuel and its emissions, the effect of Diesel/biodiesel additives and its role in Diesel engines. Chapter (II): Chapter (II) illustrates the experimental procedures, instruments used for the different measurements and analytical techniques. In addition, it includes the preparation methods of the investigated SCPs as single crystals and as nanosized materials as well as the preparation of biodiesel fuel and diesel/biodiesel blends. |
