The problem of the current research has been determined by the researcher’s sentiment and the results of the exploratory study: The low levels of second year secondary students in statistical sense skills, and their inability to have a self-management. This may be due to the traditional methods and strategies applied in most of our educational institutes. Besides, the negligence of the modern technological means in the educational situation. This made the researcher use one of the modern educational preludes that may contribute to treat this kind of weakness. Thus, the use of the flipped classroom is suitable for that.
Questions of the Research:
The research questions are identified in the following:
1- What is the effect of flipped classroom in teaching algebra on developing sense skills among second year secondary students?
2- What is the effect of flipped classroom in teaching algebra on self-management among second year secondary students?
Objectives of the Research:
The aim of the current research is to:
1) Learn about the effect of flipped classroom in teaching algebra on developing sense skills among second year secondary students.
2) Learn about the effect flipped classroom in teaching algebra on self-management among second year secondary students.
The importance of research:
The importance of the current research is that it is expected to benefit in:
1) Creating an active environment for learners either inside or outside the classroom.
2) The dire need to new and modern learning methods suitable for the 21st students in the Arab world generally and in Egypt especially.
3) In developing the teachers’ methodological performance according to the flipped classroom philosophy. The will affect positively on developing the number sense and self-management amongst the second year secondary students.
4) The planners and the developers of the mathematics curriculums can benefit from the flipped classroom philosophy in introducing and preparing these curriculums.
5) The planners and the developers of the mathematics curriculums can benefit from the flipped classroom philosophy in involving the skills of number sense in mathematics curriculums..
Variables of the Research:
 Independent variable: the flipped classroom.
 Dependent variables: number sense – self-management
Limitations of the Research:
The current research was limited to the following :
1) A group of students from El-Sayeda Khadiga secondary school for girls ( experimental group) ,and another group from Omar bin Elkhatab secondary school for girls ( control group ) in Somosta educational administration where the researcher works.
2) The unit of sequence and series imposed on the students of the second year secondary students second term. Some of the skills of number sense are (mental arithmetic – realizing the distinguished number mark – understanding statements the form the mathematical relations – making sure of the reasonability of the result)
Method of the Research:
The current research depends on the semi-experimental approach according to the two-group system design: the control group taught in the traditional method and the experimental group taught using flipped classroom.
Materials of the Research:
1) A teacher’s guide for using flipped classroom in teaching the content of the unit of sequence and series for second year secondary students.
2) A variety of educational videos related to the content of the unit; designed by the researcher himself with the help of the experts of the field of making videos.
Tools of the Research:
1) The test of Number Sense.
2) Scale of self-management.
group of the Research:
The research group was selected from among a group of students from El-Sayeda Khadiga secondary school for girls ( experimental group) ,and another group from Omar bin Elkhatab secondary school for girls ( control group ) in Somosta educational administration where the researcher works.
Research hypotheses:
The current research sought to verify the validity of the following hypotheses:
1) There is a statistically significant difference between the mean degrees of the experimental group students and the degrees of the control group students in the post application of the test of Number sense skills in favor of the experimental group.
2) There is a statistically significant difference between the mean degrees of the experimental group students and the degrees of the control group students in the post application of the self-management scale in favor of the experimental group.
Procedures of the Research:
The current research will undergo the following procedures:
1) Access to literature, studies and previous research related to the research topic to help in writing an appropriate theoretical framework for research, as well as designing research tools.
2) Analyzing the content of the selected topics into (concepts, generalizations and skills) and calculating the validity of the analysis process.
3) Flipped classroom teaching design in light of content analysis.
4) Preparing the teacher’s guide accompanied by student worksheets explaining how to use the flipped classroom.
5) Presenting the teacher’s guide to a group of professors to arbitrate and adjust.
6) Preparing the test of Number sense skills and presenting it to a group of professors to arbitrate and adjust.
7) Preparing the scale of self-management and presenting it to a group of professors to arbitrate and adjust.
8) selecting the search group and dividing it into two groups ( a control group and an experimental one )
9) Applying a post test in the precedent information on the two groups (the control and the experimental one ) to make sure of the equality of the two groups before doing the experiment.
10) Teaching the experimental group using Flipped Classroom integration and teaching the control group in the usual way.
11) Applying research tools (number sense skills test and self-management scale) to the two groups beforehand.
12) Monitoring and processing degrees statistically.
13) Interpretation and discussion of the results, and verification of the validity of the research hypotheses.
14) Presenting recommendations and proposals in light of the results of the research.
Results of the Research:
The research reached the conclusion that:
1- There is a statistically significant difference between the mean degrees of students of the experimental group (which were studied using the Flipped Classroom ) and the degrees of students of the control group (which were studied in the usual way) in the post-application of the number sense skills test in favor of the experimental group.
2- There is a statistically significant difference between the mean degrees of the students of the experimental group (which were studied using the Flipped Classroom) and the degrees of the students of the control group (which were studied in the usual way) in the post application of the scale of self-management in favor of the experimental group.
