Abstract

The aim of this analysis was to determine the prevalence and measure the levels of TAF and AFM1 in animal feed and milk respectively from the state of Kuwait, owing to public health issues and consequent economic losses due to the occurrence of aflatoxins in food. In the winter season of 2017, ninety-six raw milk samples were randomly obtained from dairy farm milk tanks (24 each of cow, shecamel, sheep and goat) in the regions of Kuwait. The mean concentrations of aflatoxin M1 in milk samples were 0.122, 0.084, 0.056 and 0.051 μg/kg, respectively. A total of 100.0, 100.0, 70.8 and 58.3% of cow, camel, sheep and goat samples is higher than the European Union’s overall recommended limits for milk samples. A hundred animal feed samples were gathered randomly from various areas in the state of Kuwait (25 each of cow, she camel, sheep and goat). The mean TAF concentrations in animal feed samples were 13.2, 14.56, 14.36 and 14.52 μg/kg. A total of 8, 16, 8 and 4 per cent of the different samples had values greater than the European Union’s overall recommended thresholds for feed samples. To mitigate the health danger from aflatoxin M1 contamination in milk, it is important to add the ideal recommended cap. It is effective to apply Good Agricultural Practices and Good Veterinary Practices to agriculture, as well as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) method for the control of dairy cow feed and the production of milk and milk products.
