Abstract

Education in many different engineering fields requires laboratory work in order to provide practical knowledge and develop students ’skills, which is an effective educational method to achieve this purpose, yet students find themselves in a real problem when they go to the labor market because of the huge gap between what is taught in the laboratory and what Find it on the job market, laboratories do little to develop students ’design, project management, and communication skills.
Many studies and researches have focused on the application of problem-based learning and stated that this experience is very effective in learning technology science, improving design skills, project management and communication skills for students, and it is an inexpensive way and can achieve goals that have failed traditional learning methods in Achieved.
However, the disadvantage of this method is that, it does not provide students with the necessary basics for educational materials, and it wastes time on students with low vision.
In this research, a programmatic rulers program, PLC, which is taught in Egyptian colleges of technology for electricity and electronics, has been developed. This development is based on the integration of two methods, laboratory-based learning and problem-based learning (PBL) - and it has not neglected other methods of teaching engineering materials - To develop students’ practical skills that are required by the labor market, in order to achieve the greatest benefits and avoid the negatives mentioned for each method.
In this research, the number of study weeks (15 weeks) was divided into (10 weeks) in which students presented the basics of the scientific subject and trained them on basic skills in the laboratory, during this period we teaches them how to solve a problem related to the subject of the lesson and use the Internet to solve it.
After this period has passed, students are required to form working groups and choose a real problem in the labor market. Students participate in their selection, and after the teacher’s approval, students dissolve them during the remaining period (5 weeks), with an opportunity for them to use the lab during this period, students in The fifteenth week asked to do a practical presentation of the problem and its practical solution.
The proposed PLC program was developed to develop practical skills for students of electricity and electronics technology at technical colleges, and the program was presented to arbitrators from university professors, in order to reach the general framework of the program and includes: (Procedural goals - program content - educational activities - learning resources - teaching methods and strategies - evaluation methods).
The detailed curriculum of the proposed program was developed and reviewed with professors of specialization in universities and placed in the engineering framework that meets the requirements of the labor market, so the manufacturers’ brochures were used to explain the basics, and realistic examples and real projects from the labor market were included with logical solutions for them so that students learn about the ideal solutions for illustrative examples And projects.
The computer-related training Kit is built, and it contain the PLC S7 300, with input unit includes:
(Input simulation switches - Input push buttons- Input sensors).
And the output unit that contained:
(Single phase and three phase power connections - Power supply module with D.C 24V and D.C 5V outputs - Output contactors - Output Relay’s - D.C Motor - Alarm - Indicator Lamps).
After that, the effectiveness of the proposed program was measured, by teaching its units with the help of the training unit shown, and the effective results came out that there is a statistically significant difference at the level (0.02) between the average of the students ’scores in the paper test.
There is also a statistically significant difference at the level (0.01) between the average scores of students, for skill performance.
