Abstract

NiO and MnOn nanoparticles were synthesized by simple benign solid-state decomposition of M-ascorbate precursor. It is demonstrated that the prepared NiO and MnOn-NPs are an effective adsorbent for the removal of ponceauxylidine dye besides its efficacy as a disinfectant for contaminated water. The magnetic parameters of the NiO and MnOn and its precursor were determined and found to be affected by the particle size. The adsorption isotherm parameters and kinetics study for the adsorption process have been investigated. The equilibrium adsorption data of ponceauxylidine showed excellent fitting with the Langmuir and Temkin models rather than Freundlich adsorption isotherm, indicating that the uptake of dye is favorable, monolayer and occurs on homogeneous surface sites. NiO and MnOn and its precursor exhibited interesting magnetic properties. NiO and MnOn exhibited antimicrobial activity against some organisms that may exist in water.
