Abstract

The interest in concrete having an early age strength is increased due to the possibility to limit the construction time. A rapid hardening concrete (R.H.C.) can be applied in order to limit the interruption of heavy traffic ways, for the construction of infrastructures such as bridges, Highways, etc. Although normal concrete mix is less expensive on a first-cost basis than R.H.C., but the early removal of forms in the site saves money and time.
The R.H.C. became one of the construction materials used widely. The previous researches were meant to study the behavior of the reinforced R.H.C. beams. However, the studies didn’t focus on the serviceability of the R.H.C. The purpose of this research is to investigate the mechanical properties of R.H.C. Properties studied include compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural behavior. Mechanical properties were evaluated based on the compressive, tensile, and bend test results for both normal and R.H.C.. The effect of admixture percentages on hardening properties of R.H.C. was studied
This study provides experimental result of reinforced rapid strength concrete beams. An experimental program consisting of six parts; part (1 & 2) consists of 75 cubes tested under compressive strength at the ages of (1,3,7,28) days , part (3) consists of 54 cylinders tested under compressive strength at the ages of (1,3,7,28), part (4) consists of 18 cylinders tested under tensile strength at the ages of (1,3,7,28) , part (5) consists of 18 plain concrete beams (prisms) tested under flexural strength at the ages of (1,3,7,28) , part (6) consists of 5 reinforced concrete beams tested under flexural were supported on two edge supports to represent the case of simply supported beams. Two of them were reference normal concrete mix tested at the age of (7, 28) days. and the remaining three beams were rapid hardening concrete mix tested at the age of (3, 7, 28) days. The results show that, the R.H.C. beams at the 7 days reach the same stress as the 28 days normal beams but the deflection values are high comparing the normal beams.
