Abstract

There are numerous classification categories, parameters, and criteria, in each patient hydrocephalus can be given a classification, to which are added further individual qualifying parameters and variables, so that the full range of classified subtypes of hydrocephalus can be uncountable : congenital-fetal/progressive/high-pressure/ non-communicating/ idiopathic/ macrocephalic/ internal-triventricular hydrocephalus, and arrested hydrocephalus. The study revealed the following results: All patients had only ventriculomegaly on CT with no clinical manifestations of increased intracranial pressure and they were apparently normal, the only abnormality was the IQ deviation. It is often so difficult to distinguish between compensated hydrocephalus, without risk of brain damage, and slowly progressive hydrocephalus, with its risk of ongoing parenchymal damage. N.B “assumed” arrested HCP all cases had IQ test just below average, no cases were with sever MR The arrested HCP is not a cause of sever immediate MR and those cases require another way of integrated neurobehavioral management. One year follow up show no improvement in the ventricular size in the both groups with statistical difference between the two groups and the normal ventricular size is not a goal of therapy. The ventricular size not improved after one year of CSF shunting and longer follow up is required. After 6 months of treatment, IQ preformed to all cases, and same results obtained in both groups without any improvement, this coincidental with literature review which indicated very slow improvement o cognitive function after relatively long period. Unfortunately. after 1 year of treatment, only 3 case in group two had slight improvement as regard IQ assessment to become while none of cases deteriorated. In the control group, none of cases had any improvement in their IQ and one cased downgraded from below average to mild impairment.
