Abstract

The goal of myringoplasty is to reconstruct the tympanic membrane and the sound conducting mechanism.
Fat graft myringoplasty has been first described in 1962 by Ringenberg as a simple technique for repairing of TM perforations with reported success rates varying between 76% and 92%.
PRP is a simple and minimally invasive method to obtain a high concentrate of autologous growth factors. As it is prepared from autologous blood, PRP is cheaper than growth factors and carries no risk of transmitting infection.
In the first human PRP application during myringoplasty, El- Anwar et al. proved a positive PRP effect on healing with perfect results in large TM perforation.
The study showed improvement of success rates in fat myringoplasty after application of topical PRP and acceleration of healing.
Conclusion
In our study, we found that autologous PRP application accelerates TM closure following fat plug myringoplasty, and prevents graft displacement.
It also decreases time of healing, highly efficient and successful with no reported complication.
The use of autologous PRP has advantages as it is an autogenous material, always available, less costly, and has no risks of allergy, toxicity, or graft rejection.
We didn’t find a significant difference between the 2 groups in hearing gain.
