Abstract

Hypercholestrolemia or hyperlipidemia is a sever health problem in both developed and developing countries. It is considered a risk factor for several diseases including: cardiovascular disease, cerebral stroke, metabolic disorders, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and infertility. The consumption of high fat diets induce fatty liver developing non alcholic steatohepatitis with ballooning hepatocytes and lobular inflammation. The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is increasing worldwide in parallel to the increase of the obesity epidemic. The accumulation of triglyceride derived toxic lipid metabolites within the hepatocytes and the insulin resistance play a key role in its pathogenesis. There is relation between hypercholesterolemia and infertility. It has been reported that a negative effect of hypercholesterolemia on testicular tissues, spermatogenesis and secretion of reproductive hormone.
